Alumni Award presentations among Convocation and Reunions 2012 highlights

During Convocation and Reunions 2012, to be celebrated Oct. 24-26, the following alumni will be honored with distinguished alumni awards: Bill Barnes '59 B.D., a United Methodist pastor from Nashville; John Chane '72 M.Div., retired bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington; Marcia Y. Riggs '83 M.Div., the J. Erskine Love Professor of Christian Ethics at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia; and Toshihiro Takami '60 B.D., founder of the Asian Rural Institute.

"This year's awardees are an excellent microcosm of the diverse work YDS alumni are called to do around the world," said KC Choi '95 B.A., '98 M.Div., chair of the Alumni Board's Awards Committee.  "They exemplify, with remarkable distinction, our alumni's commitment to both church and society. It is a privilege and honor to acknowledge such accomplished graduates of Yale Divinity School. And, as always, my deepest gratitude for the dedication and thoughtfulness with which the members of the Awards Committee conduct their work."

Cheryl Cornish '83 M.Div., a committee member and chair-elect for next year, said, "One of the great joys of celebrating the ministries of these four alumni is that they each, in special and strong ways, embody values that are significant to each of us as YDS alums.  Their vision is wide, their dedication and discipline runs deep, and the presence of the Spirit within them speaks to the world of grace, healing and justice."
